The Budget 2015 – The Main Points

George Osbourne has just finished giving the first exclusive Conservative budget for 19 years and it was, to say the least, packed full of changes.

Our Tax Specialist, Andy Hagues, avidly watched the budget and has summarised the main points below, however Andy will be producing a fully comprehensive Budger Review shortly, once all of the extra bits George did not have time to mention have surfaced.

The main points are summarised below:

  • A £5000 tax free allowance on dividends and then you pay tax at 7.5% or 32.5% on them!
  • No employers NIC allowance for one man companies.
  • Corporation Tax down to 19% in 2017 and 18% in 2020.
  • Buy To Let loan interest will be restricted to Basic Rate gradually over 4 years from 2017.
  • Pension relief will be restricted for higher earners but no solid details.
  • Homes can be passed on through Inheritance Tax so individuals could have £500,000 allowance, couples £1,000,000.
  • Personal allowance up to £11,000 in April 2016.
  • Lots of welfare caps.
  • Employers NIC allowance up to £3,000 from April next year.
  • National living wage to be £7.20 per hour from next April and £9.00 per hour by 2020.
  • Fuel duty frozen.

As mentioned earlier we will be providing a more comprehensive analysis of the budget so watch this space.
